Why e-Design or Mood Boards?

What are e-Designs, and Mood Boards, and all this mumbo jumbo design talk, anyway??  Why do I need it??  Well, my friends, those are great questions and I'm going to enlighten you!

Simply put, e-Designs and Mood Boards are inexpensive way to achieve the look of a professionally designed or decorated space without the Full Service price tag.  It's also a great way to hire your favorite designer regardless of any geographical challenges.  Unless of course you're Oprah and can afford to fly your designer out to you, put them up in your guest house and have your cabana boy feed them grapes next to the pool while you talk home decor.

*By the way - if you're reading this, Oprah, I'm not opposed to any of that and totally available.*

Anyhow...

If you're pretty design savvy and already have an idea of how you want the room layed out but just need some ideas on how to pull everything together, then a Mood Board is a good option for you.  Your designer/decorator will help you with selections and create a collage so you can visualize how everything ties together before entering the vicious vortex of purchasing and returning.

Sounds pretty easy, right?  So why would you hire someone to do that and not just attempt it yourself?  You most certainly can, but there's more to consider than just putting a bunch of pretty pictures on a blank canvas.  There's room dimensions, product dimensions, walk space allowances, color variations, texture, balance, etc. which is part of your designer/decorator's expertise.

True story - I recently sold the sofas and tables in our family room less than 5 minutes after being listed... I was NOT prepared for that!  My husband always scolds me for purchasing new before selling the old, so I listened and now we're sitting on the floor (LOL).  I figured I'd have at least a few days to shop new selections and get my idea together.  Not complaining at all because 5 minutes sales totally jive with my impatient side, but it became crunch time real fast.  So after we finally agreed on a sofa, I put the mood board below together to help determine the rest of the products I purchased to pull the space together.

This is where a Mood Board comes in handy and saves you time and money!  I went through several chairs, accent tables and poufs (foot rests) that didn't look as amazing together as I envisioned before I ended up with what you see below.  Ideally, this will save me the headache of return shipping costs back to the supplier along with time wasted on shipping something new or travelling back and forth to the retailer. When you've seen 6,432 different accent tables and 6,433 different chairs at 974 different retailers things tend to get jumbled in your head and a once fun task can start to get overwhelming.  You get to a point where you just want the task off your shoulders. Hm, as I type this I'm thinking maybe I should've hired someone!

Nah... I'm just kidding - that's why I love what I do. ;)

So now that you know the "what" about e-Designs and Mood boards, how about the "why"?

As I touched on earlier, it saves you time, money and hopefully a headache.  It's much more efficient to see how everything comes together on your computer screen and make the necessary adjustments from there than to purchase a bunch of products and hope what you envision in your head comes to life just as magically.  I'm not saying that's impossible, it's just not as trusty, so it's worth spending a little bit of time and money up front to dial everything in and hammer out the project so you can enjoy it much quicker and less painlessly!

We are implementing several kinds of interior and exterior designs in our house. It helps to improve the appearance of our home and gives an attractive look, therefore, we need to follow different instructions on how to get a better interior design for our home. But apart from all the interior design collections, we should also appreciate the presence of e-design and mood boards. Thanks for the wonderful description of these two concepts.
