How To Re-Decorate Without Spending A Lot

If you're a serial re-decorator like me, then you're in the right place because I'm going to share 3 tips that will help you satisfy that itch without the guilt. For the sake of my bank account and my marriage, I've learned to get creative and re-decorate without spending a lot of money. Sometimes I don't even spend anything out of pocket at all.

Redecorate without spending a lot of money

1. SELL, SELL, SELL

If you're replacing larger and more expensive items, such as a coffee table, art, a chandelier, sofa, etc. then sell the old and put it toward the new. I LOVE Facebook Marketplace for selling household items, but you can try other local services like Offer Up and Craig's List to see what you like best. I get the least amount of hassle and flaky buyers from FB Marketplace so that's where I list my items. You can sell anything, really! I tend to donate the smaller stuff because haggling over $10 and hoping they show up hasn't proven to be worth my time in the past.

TIP: Research the new item you want and then try to find a sale or bargain before you sell the old. This way you know exactly how much you'll need to come up with out of pocket - if anything at all!

2. SHOP YOUR HOUSE

I previously wrote a blog post offering ideas on 5 Inexpensive Ways to Refresh a Space, and shopping your house should've been on that list!

You can completely change the look of a room by simply swapping out a few pieces from different rooms.

It feels new, it feels fresh, and the best part is it doesn't cost you a dime! Not everyone loves change, but I crave it - so if you're like me and get bored with a room being the same way for very long then this tip is right up your alley. I recently moved around some wall decor in my house to satisfy my craving for change and it did just the trick.

3. DIY

Don't be afraid to get dirty and get your DIY on! I have saved SO much money customizing pieces that have good bones. Right look, wrong color? Paint it. You like the base of a coffee table but don't like the top? Make a new one. You want a new sofa but can't afford one? Change the feet. You want cement tile but can't afford to replace it? Stencil it.

The list goes on. Get creative! If you don't think you're creative or don't know how to execute your idea - Google and YouTube are your best buds. We literally have the world at our fingertips these days to get all the answers and tutorials we need.

Those three tips alone will save you so much money and allow you to re-decorate without spending a lot of money. Promise!

These are really great tips!

Thank you, Lynndee. Glad you think so!

This great! Yes, from selling about 100 things this year...by far FB Marketplace is the least amount of hassle (people don't negotiate and they show up). I found for anything over $200 or so Craiglist is still the best bet, but I can't believe the amount of auto email scams set up. I just reply with "cash only & in person pickup"! And I love shopping my house too :)
