Boho Inspired Christmas Decorating

Whether you're stopping by after visiting Martha at Simple Cozy Charm's beautiful and cozy winter bedroom retreat, just stumbling across my blog, or a loyal reader – WELCOME to part 1 of my Christmas tour which is my non-traditional, boho inspired take on Christmas décor (because you won’t see any red this time around). If you’re a Christmas traditionalist like Mr. CG, don’t worry, part 2 is coming at ya next week and will have lots of Christmas red.

Boho Inspired Christmas Tree Decorations

This is the formal living and dining room where I get to do whateeeverrr I want without Mr. CG chiming in so you’ll find a lot of light neutrals with pops of color in here throughout the year. Being that I’m obsessed with all things mudcloth and boho inspired right now, I’ve incorporated a lot of that into my tree by covering ornament bulbs with mudcloth scraps I got from Monica at Boho Pillow.

It’s a time consuming process, but it was worth it! I basically cut scraps and pieced them together like a jigsaw puzzle using my hot glue gun to adhere the fabric to the ornament. I initially intended to make them for the tree, but I loved them in this bowl so I bit the bullet and made a few more just for the bowl. Not even mad about it.

DIY Mudcloth Ornaments

It helps tie in the cotton Scandinavian trees I picked up from LCO Design Studio’s shop during small business Saturday. Aren’t they the cutest?!

I always try to incorporate as much Christmas décor as I can from previous years because it gets expensive to buy new stuff every year, but I also aim to have my holiday décor fit into my everyday décor as much as possible so I don’t want to rip it down a week later – hence the boho inspired twist on everything.

This year, I got a slimmer tree for this space and ended up going with a black and white theme with pops of indigo mudcloth because I love it against the flocked tree. Since I did that on the tree in my master bedroom last year (which I’m not doing this year), it saved me from buying all new ornaments as everything I had from that tree is black and white. I only added a few more ornaments that I couldn’t pass up from Michael’s and LCO’s shop. Other than that, the mudcloth bulbs are the only other new addition this year, and that is much more cost effective than buying new bulbs because I covered ones I already had.

I also DIY’d the garland by tearing strips of leftover drop cloth I had and tied it together to make one big piece. I tore it rather than cut it because that gave me the clean frayed edge I wanted.

I decided to keep my table fairly simple so it doesn’t compete with the Christmas tree since it's right next to the table. I repurposed the paper flowers, votive candles, wood bowl and macramé table runner from my Thanksgiving tablescape, then simply added the cute cable knit wrapped tree I purchased at Michael’s last year.

To complete this room, I hung some mini faux fur stockings from Target’s dollar spot to the hooks in my entry way and called it a day!

The last part of my boho inspired Christmas décor is continued in the master bedroom. I went all out with Christmas decor and a tree in there last year, but I’m just not feeling it this year so I kept it very minimal with a couple of small flocked trees on my nightstands…

I hope you’ve enjoyed my take on boho inspired Christmas décor and hope to see you back next week when I’ll be sharing a more traditional Christmas theme. Although, traditional isn’t really my thing so the color red is about the only traditional thing I incorporated. ;)

Head over to my friend Chell at Cambridge Home Company next because she has some great advice on creating the perfect holiday cards!!

For even more Christmas inspiration, be sure to visit the other ladies I’ve teamed up with in this tour. It’s so fascinating to see all the different styles everyone comes up with given the same task!
